If you want optical quality and edge strength to land in spec, uniform heating is the only path. The protection mesh keeps the heating zone intact, cuts convective losses, and keeps the element safe from contact and contamination. The payoff is fewer temperature swings, curvature and stress that hold steady, and fewer surprise shutdowns.
