On the line, heating trouble doesn’t just stop the belt—it bakes uneven thermal load into the glass, and then you’re chasing stress fractures and rejects. An open heater sitting out in the breeze, exposed to dust and a stray bump, is the weak link you can’t afford. We run a protection mesh across the heating zone to shield the element and keep the thermal profile honest for tempering, bending, and coating drying. Here’s what matters under the hood. We pair a high-emissivity, corrosion-resistant mesh with a heating element that’s matched to it, so performance stays predictable. In practice, that means a ramp-up of 8–12°C/s, temperature uniformity within ±3°C across the active area, and power density tuned to 25–35 W/in² for your line speed. The mesh keeps heat transfer steady without cooking hot spots, so the glass sees a clean, stable thermal field through heating and soak. Tempering and bending don’t forgive uneven heat. If you want optical quality and edge strength to land in spec, uniform heating is the only path. The protection mesh keeps the heating zone intact, cuts convective losses, and keeps the element safe from contact and contamination. The payoff is fewer temperature swings, curvature and stress that hold steady, and fewer surprise shutdowns. Energy use drops because the system holds setpoint without chasing overshoot, and elements last longer—less thermal shock, less mechanical damage. On the lamination and coating side, that same stability keeps bonds bubble-free and film cure uniform, even when you’re pushing high throughput. Installation is straightforward on most furnaces, but clearance is tight. Plan for 3–5 mm around the mesh frame so you don’t rub fixtures and you still get proper airflow. The mesh plays nicely with quartz and ceramic elements, but double-check voltage and terminal spacing against your OEM module before you switch over. One more detail: in convection-heavy furnaces, inert gas use can creep up a bit with the added surface area. We size the mesh to keep that in check while still giving you real protection.
