
Keeping Your Bathroom Warm (Without Blinding Everyone)
Heating a bathroom is a bit of a balancing act. You need it to be warm, but you’re dealing with a lot of steam and water splashes. That’s why we went with an IP55 rating. It’s not meant to be dropped in a pool, but it’s plenty tough enough to handle a steamy shower without the internals shorting out or the terminals rusting away. It just works.
Why the light doesn’t hurt your eyes
Here is the real challenge: light. Most infrared lamps are blinding. If you’ve ever looked at one, you know that harsh, stabbing glare—and that’s a huge problem when you’re caring for a baby with sensitive eyes. We fixed this by shifting the spectrum. Instead of that blinding white light, we push the energy into the long-wave infrared range. You still get all the warmth you need to get a chill off your skin, but without the “staring into the sun” feeling. It’s heat you can feel, but not light that hurts.
No more “hot spots”
Nobody likes that feeling of one spot of their skin searing while the rest of them is freezing. To stop that, we added a soft-light diffusion layer. It spreads the warmth out. Instead of a concentrated beam, you get a soft, gentle glow. We also kept a close eye on the power levels. We could have pumped up the wattage to heat the room faster, but that would make the emitter dangerously hot to the touch. We capped the output so the heat feels like a cozy blanket, not a blast from a furnace.
A quick note on setup
When you’re wiring these into a damp area, just make sure your grounding is spot on. And a heads-up: because we’ve shifted the light spectrum, the lamp might look a bit “dimmer” than a standard old-school bulb. Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s not working. The energy is still there; it’s just invisible to your eyes and absorbed by your skin. Just be careful with the housing during installation so you don’t break that IP55 seal. Keep it tight, and you’re good to go.
