
Warmth Without the Glare: Getting Infrared Right in the Bathroom
Here’s the problem we kept running into with bathroom heaters: you want that deep, cozy warmth, but you don’t want to feel like you’re staring into the sun. This is especially true when you’re bathing a baby. A standard halogen lamp is just too bright—it’s harsh, it’s blinding, and it’s not a great way to start the morning. So, we decided to change how the light actually works.
Keeping the Heat, Losing the Glow
Most infrared lamps throw out a huge range of light, and a lot of that ends up being visible. That’s where that annoying, bright glare comes from. To fix this, we messed around with the filament and added a special coating to the quartz tubes. We basically filtered out those bright peaks. By shifting the energy toward medium and long-wave infrared, we kept the heat exactly where it needs to be, but dialed the brightness way down. It’s a simple bit of physics. We target the wavelengths that your skin absorbs, not the ones that hit your retina. You get the warmth on your skin, but your eyes stay relaxed.
The Nitty-Gritty Hardware
These run on your standard 220V-240V circuit. We use quartz glass because it doesn’t crack when it heats up and cools down quickly. One quick heads-up: bathrooms are wet. If you’re putting these in a steamy environment, make sure your housing is IP-rated. You really don’t want water getting anywhere near the live terminals. And a word of caution—while the light is soft, the glass isstill scorching hot. High wattage means fast heat, but it also means the tube can burn you if you touch it. Always use a protective grill or tuck the lamp into a recessed housing to keep people safe.
Getting It Installed
We designed these to be easy drop-in replacements for the fixtures you already have. Just double-check that your wiring can handle a continuous load. Plus, if you’re installing a few of these in one small bathroom, keep an eye on your breaker. You don’t want the power tripping right in the middle of the morning rush.
